Flea Bites On Humans Treatments | Symptoms | Pictures

So what are fleas? To be honest, if you are on this site, you probably have a basic idea of what they are. Annoying little things that hurt you and your pets. But in reality they are a little bit more sinister. The way they survive is by drinking blood. After they fall off your pets, for whatever reason, they will bite whatever is closest to them, which is usually your feet or legs. Although they cannot live on humans normally, they don’t need a lot of time to cause some damage. Despite itching, the fleas can cause some more serious damage, from infections to the bubonic plague if you live in certain countries.

Symptoms of Flea Bites

You will probably be aware extremely fast if you have some flea bites on you. They don’t take long at all to show up, and are visible clearly too. If you notice some itching on your legs, its a good sign you have flea bites. Now what are the other flea bites symptoms? Aside from itching, you will see red blotches on your skin that don’t go away. Especially if you scratch them. If you do see them, and they are itching, you need to resist the urge to scratch them, due to the fact that this makes them worse. By scratching them you can open them up, which can lead to infection, and will start to become painful.

You can and will also see flea clues around your house. If you notice small egss in the carpet, or your pet’s scratching unusually this is a good indicator that you have a flea infestation. Before long, these Fleas are going to be biting you

Now, although it is common to have them on your legs, it isn’t impossible to start seeing welts on your upper body as well, especially if the fleas are biting you in your sleep. If you are hypersensitive to flea bites then the welts may be much larger, and bleed, If this is the case you definitely need to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Treatments for Flea Bites on Humans

Now, the obvious fact is that you need to get rid of the flea bites. if you don’t, then they wont just go away, but they will get worse. There are many ways that you can treat your flea bites.

1. Never scratch them. This is probably the most important part to ridding yourself of flea bites. Also, because fleas excrete when the feed, the area around the bite is going to be tainted by nasty bacteria that will go into your blood when you scratch it. Big no-No!

2. There are many Creams and lotions that you can use the rid yourself  of the flea bites. These will not only remove the bites, but will almost instantly reduce the swelling, clean the area, and reduce the itchiness or soreness of the flea bites. you can usually get these cheap and fast at your local chemist or pharmacist.

3. You can also take pills to get rid of the fleas. However, these can be expensive and taste nasty, so I personally would not recommend this. Some people have adverse affects to various ingredients in certain kind of pest removal pills. If however you feel you have to do this, please consult a doctor before you do. This will only take you a few moments and could save you further medical issues.

4. A method some people use for treating the swelling and itchiness of flea bites, is using ice packs. This reduces the swelling and irritation of the bites, which if you remember the first bullet point, is the first step to curing yourself.
