Once you have treated your cat with anti-flea medication you expect that the fleas will die and leave your cat healthy. However, you obviously know that the cat had spread the fleas to the rest of the house and if you don’t have them, it is just a matter of time before they bite you.
To prevent yourself from flea bites, apply mosquito spray on your ankles as well as on your socks and cuff of the pants you are wearing. Apply it consistently for a month. Mosquito repellant contains DEET, a chemical substance that kills fleas. This ensures that fleas will not bite you or your treated loved ones in the house. By doing this, you will be depriving fleas off food as they cannot feed on the cat and now you too are immune to them. This stops fleas from multiplying as they will die. In 30 days time, you will not see fleas jumping around your house, but in case you do, continue applying the spray.
Engage in cleaning your floor thoroughly. For carpets, upholstery and rugs, vacuum clean them. By vacuuming your upholstery and carpet, you machine sucks up the larvae, eggs and fleas. The vibrations from the vacuum cleaner forces the fleas in pupa stage hatch from their cocoons, thus you are able to kills as many as possible. When cleaning smooth floor, use cleaning detergents such as Pine-Sol. This will force the fleas to come out of their hiding holes.
Spray your house with fogger, which is used to control free. When buying fogger, ensure it has the chemicals used to kill fleas such as pyriproxyfen, fenoxycarb or methroprene. Spray the places that fleas could be hiding such as carpets, door edges and floor cracks.
